VISIT AGRIGENTO HISTORICAL DISTRICT
The Agrigento City Tour visits the old part of Agrigento, full of its distinctive buildings. It is a walking tour through Agrigento. You will be shown the most beautiful views and the most enchanting places in the town, which may otherwise remain hidden and undiscovered: squares, courtyards, the facades of Norman and Baroque churches, cloisters, bell towers, coats of arms, balconies, noble palaces and votive niches.
Lorenzo will show you Agrigento City Centre and the local lifestyle.
A must-see is the Convent of Santo Spirito, the only one remaining in the town which is still in use and one of only four convents in the whole of Sicily in which the Benedictine nuns still produce handmade almond and pistachio biscuits following ancient Sicilian recipes. The specialities they produce can be tasted here. In the church of the convent can be seen the magnificent stuccoes by Giacomo Serpotta, a fine example of Baroque art and one of the most beautiful churches in the town.
Everything from the sacred church decorations and religious processions to the more earthly traditions of popular culture will be explained…the town’s hidden identity will be revealed!
